03Bring

What to bring

  • A photo ID.
  • Your dental insurance card, if you have one.
  • A list of the medicines you take, including supplements.
  • The name and phone number of your previous dentist, if you had one.
  • Any recent dental X-rays, if they are easy to get. If not, we can ask your previous dentist to send them with your permission.
  • A list of questions. Writing them down helps.

You fill in a health history form at the visit. This website never asks for health details.

04Minute by minute

Your first visit, minute by minute

  1. −10 min

    Arrive and settle in

Arrive about ten minutes early if you can. You complete the health history and consent forms.

  2. 0–15 min

    Your questions first

Tell us what you want to know, including cost. We explain what an exam involves before it starts.

  3. 15–30 min

    Exam

A dentist checks your teeth, gums, bite and the tissues of your mouth.

  4. 30–40 min

    X-rays

We take the X-rays your dentist recommends. Tell us if you are or might be pregnant before any X-ray.

  5. 40–70 min

    Cleaning

A hygienist cleans your teeth if your gums and the time allow. A deeper cleaning is explained and scheduled separately.

  6. 70–90 min

The conversation and a written summary

Your dentist explains what they found, what can wait, the options and what each is expected to cost. You get the treating dentist’s name in writing.

You leave knowing what happens next, even if the answer is "come back in six months".

05Nerves

If you feel nervous

Many people do. Tell us when you book or when you arrive. We explain each step before we do it, agree a signal you can use to pause, and go at a pace that works for you. Local anesthetic numbs the area for fillings and crowns.

06Paying

Costs and insurance

If you have dental insurance, your plan's benefits decide what you pay, and the front desk can check your benefits with you before any treatment. Without insurance, you can pay as a self-pay patient or join the Brazos Street membership plan.

07Children

Bringing a child

We see children from the time their first tooth comes in. The American Dental Association says to schedule a first dental visit after the first tooth comes in and no later than the first birthday.

Our dentists are general dentists, and we refer children who need a pediatric dentist. Ask the front desk about a child's visit.
